Maple Walnut Granola

Sometimes rules are really important.

For instance, I bought some of those Mr. Sketch smelly markers for the kids and in a stroke of genius, told them that they were only for Friday nights (when all Matty B and I want to do is lay in a heap in front of the fire.)

Setting this “rule” for the smelly markers has made them such a special treat that we’re going on 3 Friday night’s worth of fire heaping.

Miss Rae’s fruit basket complete with grapes and a green apple with a hefty stem.

J Man’s “crazy” car with juice dispenser included.

Yay for rules.

However, sometimes rules aren’t that important.

I made this recipe for Maple Pecan Granola. In addition to rolled oats, the recipe called for oat bran, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and pecans.

I didn’t have any of those ingredients but I did have sesame seeds, chia seeds, flax, and walnuts.

I’m such a rebel rule-breaker.

The frugal part of my brain loved using ingredients found exclusively in my pantry.

And you couldn’t beat the delicious smells that filled the house.

Almost as delicious as smelly markers.
